My First Exposure to Camping

My First exposure to Camping. (A forty year flashback.)

When Carl and I were first married we decided to go camping one weekend. I had never been camping before, however, Carl had done tent camping as a boy scout. Since it was a new experience for me, we decided to rent a pop-up. This way we could see if I liked camping before going out and buying camping equipment.

After the rental place showed us how to open and close the camper we took off to the Eastern shore of Maryland. Three hours later we got a campsite at Frontier Town, Berlin Maryland, only 5 miles from Ocean City.

Since we didn’t pick up the camper until after work Friday night, we drove to the campground, set up camp, ate dinner and went to bed. The next morning Carl fixed breakfast of bacon and eggs cooked over a campfire. I have never experienced the delicious taste and smell of a breakfast cooked on an open fire before.

After breakfast, we explored the campground and the fishing dock. We then drove into Ocean City and walked the Boardwalk, checking out the stores and eating Fisher’s popcorn. Later in the afternoon, we went back to Frontier Town to explore their Wild West Town. Carl had fun locking me up in the jail. We then went to the saloon to watch the can-can girls dance, Carl enjoyed that very much!

Later we went to a seafood restaurant and had some Maryland crab soup and steamed crabs. The next morning after Church service, we packed up and headed home to get ready for work the next day. I enjoyed the trip so much that we decided to buy a tent and some camping equipment. That open yet another first experience, tent camping. My next blog Hershey Park.
